Hazing is any action taken or any situation created intentionally that causes embarrassment, harassment or ridicule and risks emotional and/or physical harm to members of a group or team, whether new or not, regardless of the person’s willingness to participate.

Some definitions of hazing vary but all have common factors:

  • Power differential between those in a group and those who want to join a group, or between senior and junior members of a group
  • Intentional initiation rite, practice or "tradition" involved
  • Willingness to participate does not absolve responsibility for either party

How we combat HAZING

Phi Sigma Kappa has partnered with EverFi, whose mission is to help students address critical life skills such as alcohol abuse prevention, sexual assault prevention, and financial literacy in higher education institutions across the country. Each year more than 700,000 students complete these courses.

Phi Sigma Kappa is proud to offer GreekLifeEdu - a non-opinionated, science-based course that aims not to preach but rather to teach the facts about alcohol, hazing, and sexual assault. GreekLifeEdu enables members to make well-informed choices and offers simple strategies to help keep our members, their friends, and the larger Greek community safe.
